What the result looks like
- Clothing: your own clothes from the selfie. Unlike the other three styles, nothing is swapped.
- Hair: soft and natural, lightly tidied.
- Expression: a relaxed, natural smile.
- Background: white or a very pale pastel, bright and airy.
- Light: soft backlight that makes a gentle glow around the hair, with diffused fill from the front; never a direct-flash look.
- Colour: a cool, slightly blue bias, low contrast, lifted shadows and softened warm tones, like morning light through sheer curtains. Skin keeps its texture.
- Framing: facing the camera, head to mid-chest, with a little space above the head.
There is no official standard
No official standard covers social-media or dating-app photos; the list above is our standard. Each service has its own photo rules (usually that it shows you, with your face clear), so check the one you upload to.
Not for residence cards, My Number cards, passports or other government documents. The Immigration Services Agency photo standard does not allow image editing, and the My Number card guidance rejects faces that differ markedly from normal. Use a photo booth or a studio for those.
We do not change your face
Face shape, features, skin texture, moles and marks stay as in your selfie. We do not slim, smooth or make you look younger. What changes is the clothing, how your hair is arranged, the background, the light, the framing and the expression.
Whatever is in the selfie carries over, so a selfie taken from very close keeps the proportions of that distance. Read why your photo doesn't look like you.

Questions
Can I use it for a résumé?
We would not. The clothes are whatever you wore and the colour is not résumé-like. Choose the career-change style for a résumé and the job-hunting style for graduate applications.
